Así como su predecesor fue el primer juego que salió para Game Boy Color, Dragon Quest Monsters 2 fue de los últimos en aparecer antes de que se vendiera la GameBoy Advance. Habiendo salido al final de la vida de esta consola, y viniendo con este título, os podéis imaginar que es de los mejores juegos de rol para Game Boy Color.

The same as the first one in the Monsters series was the first Game Boy Color game, Dragon Quest Monsters 2 was among the last games to be published before the GameBoy Advance’s launch. Games with big names released at the end of a console’s life tend to be great games, and this is one of the Game Boy Color’s finest RPGs.
De los 4 Monsters que han salido, el que más se parece a este es Joker, el de DS. Además es el único que ha salido en español. Con esto, algunos os podréis hacer una idea de los viajes por diferentes mundos aislados, el reclutar y fusionar monstruos, y la cantidad de puntos de experiencia que nos esperan en este juego.

Muchas de las horas que pasaremos delante de este juego las pasaremos viendo una pantalla semejante a esta, la de las batallas. Es tan sencilla como la de los Dragon Quest de Famicom, por razones obvias al ser ambas máquinas de 8 bits de Nintendo. Pero aún en 2001 hubo a quien le parecieron cutres estas pantallas, sobre todo en comparación con el nivel gráfico que presenta el título en casi todos los aspectos (un gran logro por parte del desarrollador Tose, teniendo en cuenta que el juego también es compatible con la Game Boy en blanco y negro). A mí no me parece mal para nada que no haya fondo en las batallas. Entiendo que no habría sido posible mostrar tantos colores sin hacerlo así, y además estoy acostumbrado a los Dragon Quest y sé que la mayor parte son así.
RPGだから、先頭画面を見る時間が長い。背景なしで地味かもしれないけど、これは同じく任天堂の8ビットゲーム機であるファミコンのドラゴンクエストと同じですね。2001年こんな形で発売されて地味といわれてもしょうがないけど、僕はこれでいいと思った。さらに、メニューと先頭画面以外はほとんどきれいな色が使われている。モノクロのゲームボーイと対応しているのにこんなにきれいに出来たのは開発会社のトーセが頑張ったせいなのですね。
It’s a role playing game, and you’ll spend hours in front of this battle screen. It’s kind of plain like the Famicom ones, but remember both machines are Nintendo’s 8 bit consoles. Only this game was released in 2001 and maybe battles without backgrounds felt underwhelming to some people. But I’m sure the game’s developer Tose struggled a lot to put that much color in a monochrome compatible game.
Por supuesto, en el mapa somos más grandes que Ultraman. Cosas como que las mazmorras principales no sean generadas al azar, que se pueda ir a los pueblos y hablar con la gente, y que a pesar de ser un Monsters haya una historia que (si bien nimia) se ve avanzar, son las que me hacen pensar en este juego como en uno muy cercano a los Dragon Quest “de verdad”. ¡Solo falta que luche el protagonista!
フィールドに出ると相変わらずウルトラマンよりも巨人。メインのダンジョンなどがランダムで生成されていなくて、いろんな町に入って人と話出来るところなどは「モンスターズ」よりも「ドラゴンクエスト」らしいところで嬉しかった。話も地味だけど、進んでいく感じがあって気持ちいい。あと主人公も先頭に参加すれば「モンスターズ」じゃなくなる。
Of course, when you go to the world map you’re bigger than Ultraman. But points like the main dungeons not being randomly generated, the many towns to visit, and a story that (while bland) feels like it’s advancing, are some of the things that make this game feel much more like a “real” Dragon Quest game. The only thing left would be having the main character fight!
Uno de los atractivos a largo plazo del juego es fusionar monstruos o, bueno, aparearlos. Consigues un monstruo hijo con más posibilidades de crecimiento que irá aprendiendo habilidades de los dos padres. Por supuesto empieza con nivel 1, pero con la ayuda del resto de tu equipo pronto se pondrá al día y probablemente se hará más fuerte que ellos. No sé si es posible pasarse el juego sin hacer esto pero es casi un suicidio. Y una vez acabado, uno se podría pasar cientos de horas perfeccionando monstruos.
長期的に面白いところのモンスター配合。要すると子供を作らせる。その子供はレベル1から始まるけど、成長の可能性が増えている上に、親の特技など覚えていく。パーティーのみんなの助けですぐみんなの力を超えることになるでしょう。この配合を市内でゲームをクリア出来るか厳しいし、クリアした後でも何時間も配合し続けて楽しめる。
One of the most fun and time-consuming features would be monster breeding. The newborn monster will start at level 1, but will soon learn its parent’s skills and grow stronger than other monsters its same level. I don’t know if it’s possible to beat the game without breeding, but that would be even more time consuming. And once you beat the game, one could keep breeding and making your monsters stronger forever.
Ahora que empiezan a distribuirse en serio los juegos de Dragon Quest por el mundo, espero que algunos os decidáis a probar este. Por lo menos salió en inglés. Ojo porque hay dos cartuchos distintos, pero no os asustéis porque solo cambia el protagonista y la distribución de monstruos que aparecen. Como un Pokemon, vamos.
カセットが二つあるけど、主人公と出現するモンスターぐらいしか変わらないらしい。ポケモンのカセットみたい。
Now that the Dragon Quest have started to be distributed to other countries again, I hope some of you go and try this one. At least it was released in English. There are two different cartridges, but the only different things are the main character and the monster distribution (think Pokemon).
