What I found most interesting in this January 2003 issue I borrowed from the library is this explanation on doublechecking that white light is composed of red, green and blue light.

Which by the way is another great installment of «Experiments banzai!» with Prof. Debonian Yamamura.

You just need some colored LEDs, button batteries and plastic and paper cups.

This magazine had a special issue earlier this year with a kit for making your own analog synthesizer. I’d have bought it if I had more space at home. For now I’ll just keep borrowing books from the library.

Niñas japonesas en bikini y UNICEF

I was getting myself up-to-date in Japanese tech reading ASCII when I found one of those articles that are completely unrelated to the tech world. It’s an article about magazines that show pictures of Japanese young girls. In school uniform, bikini… Anything. Beware they aren’t porn magazines and looks like they are 100% legal, but it’s hard no to suspect when one sees middle-aged men buying them.

Niñas japonesas en bikini, y la UNICEF

But this kind of magazines have been this way for some years now. What surprised me today is the contextual ads, those text ads Google chooses dynamically depending on the content. I got an ad from UNICEF asking me to donate for all children’s «health, education, equity and protection». It looked quite ridiculous and contradicting to me, especially the part about «protection». So I took a screen capture for you guys to enjoy it, as you might get a different ad. How about a small donation to Unicef?

Intercambio en centro cultural —

Today I went to a culture center and spoke before 22 primary students. It was a fantastic experience.

I sung «Dime niño de quién eres» and then everyone sung the popular children’s song «Debajo un botón ton ton». All of them were able to sing and enjoy the parts that say «ton ton ton» and «tin tin tin».

Then I taught them a few words in Spanish and we played a little game.

I think I lost the game on the picture above. Anyway, in the end there was «arroz con leche» (a desert) for everybody.
