Nos hemos cambiado de la ADSL de NTT Flets a Hikari Premium, la fibra óptica del mismo operador, que nos da una conexión de 100 megabits. No es mucho, pero teníamos menos. Y tampoco nos hemos cambiado por la velocidad sino porque nos salía más barato. Supongo que para justificar los sueldos y comisiones de los comerciales les viene bien que los clientes vayan cambiando de producto a base de promociones que dejan de ser baratas después de un año o dos. Yo preferiría que lo dejaran barato siempre y así no tuviéramos que escuchar a los comerciales cada dos años o así. Y la NTT también podría ahorrar dinero.

フレッツADSLから光プレミアムにした。100メガビットはそんなに速くないけど前の方が遅かった。しかし変えたきっかけはスピードじゃなくて料金。契約の変更で営業の成績が上がったり、それに関係する仕事が増えていろいろ活性化されるように思えた。しかしキャンペーンで客に契約を変更させるより、常に安ければ客はそんなにNTTとやり取りしなくてもよくなり、NTT自体の効率も良くなる気がする。

We have switched from NTT Flets’s ADSL to Hikari Premium, their optical fiber carrier service. Our new speed is just 100 mbps, not much but faster than before. Anyway we didn’t switch because of the speed but because it is actually cheaper. They keep on signing customers up using campaigns that stop being a good deal after a year or two, so you have to hear the sales talk again and they can justify their salaries. I’d rather NTT giving me a more consistent deal and saving me the sales talk.

Modem + CTU + Wireless router

Cuando la ADSL, la NTT solo nos mandó un modem que no sabía hacer PPPoE ni nada, pero para eso teníamos el router inalámbrico que hay a la derecha de la foto de arriba, cortesía del padre de Ai. Ahora se han llevado ese modem y han traído dos cacharros con sendas fuentes de alimentación. Uno es el modem y otro es un router que hace el PPPoE y tiene 4 puertos ethernet para conectar ordenadores por cable.

ADSL回線のときにNTTに送ってもらったのはPPPoEすらも出来ないモデムしかなかったので、愛のお父さんにもらったワイヤレスルーターを付けてた。でも今はそのモデムのかわりに2つの機器を置いて行かれた。もちろん1つずつのコンセントを取る。1つは相変わらずモデムで、もう1つはPPPoEが出来る4ランケーブルが入る有線ルーターだ。

When we were using ADSL, we only got from NTT a modem that couldn’t even log into PPPoE by itself, so we added a wireless router to the mix (thanks to Ai’s father). Now that ADSL modem is gone, and we got two devices to replace it – a new modem and a router that can PPPoE and has space for 4 network cables, but no wireless.

Lo más lógico sería cambiar ese router por el nuestro y así usar solo dos cacharros, pero este router de NTT además hace de CTU (unidad terminal de cliente) y no se puede cambiar porque a la NTT le viene mal por no sé qué historias. Así que me tocó conectar nuestro router por debajo del dichoso CTU y así hemos acabado con tres cacharros encendidos para tener la red de casa. Por supuesto, me tocó volver a asignar las IP preferentes para cada máquina en el DHCP, y redirigir los puertos correspondientes. Tuve algún contratiempo pero lo solucioné en cuanto me di cuenta de que alguien había sido tan amable de activarme un servicio de seguridad llamado Net Barrier, que me capaba ciertos tipos de tráfico. Desactivado y todo perfecto.

理想はそのルーターを家のワイヤレスルーターに置き換えて2つの機器でワイヤレスランを飛ばしたいが、そうはいかないらしい。例のNTTの有線ルーターはCTU(加入者網終端装置)と言われ、置き換え不可能だという。仕方なく、その下から家のワイヤレスルーターをつなげて3機器でワイヤレスランを飛ばすことになった。もちろん、各マシーンの優先IPアドレスをDHCPに設定したり、ポートを転送しなおしたりしないといけなかった。また、いろんな通信がぷららのセキュリティサービスであるネットバリアというサービスに引っかかっていた。オフにしたら解決。

I’d like to replace that router with our wireless router, but looks like that can’t be done. NTT’s new router is also called a CTU (Consumer Terminal Unit) and NTT needs it to be there for some reasons. So I had to connect our router after theirs, and then configure the preferred IP addresses for my machines on the DHCP server and redirect the needed ports. I also had problems with certain types of packets, but I realized somebody up there had been kind enough to enable a security service called Net Barrier for us. Of course it’s disabled now.

Esta es la fibra que sale del techo y llega hasta el módem. El otro cable es una línea de teléfono que ya está desactivada porque ya no usamos ADSL y no nos hace falta.

これは天井から出てモデムまで続く光ファイバー。もう1本は電話線。ADSLを使わなくなってこれも要らなくなった。

This is the fiber coming out from the ceiling and going into the modem. The other cord is a telephone line we don’t use anymore. No ADSL, no phone.

Es curioso porque cuando estaba en la universidad (hará 8 años) yo me creía que la fibra óptica no te la podían meter hasta tu casa porque no se podría doblar con un radio tan pequeño, pero aquí está.

昔話だけど、大学のときは(8年前ぐらい)光ファイバーをそんな角度で曲げることが出来ないと思って、いずれ家の中まで光が来るとは思えなかった。

I remember thinking I’d never have optical fiber coming into my home when I was in university (8 years ago). I just didn’t think the fibers could be bended this much.
