Años de perro

Many people talk about dog years in a way that sounds incorrect to me. It is said that a dog year is the same as seven human years. But I’m not worried about the proportion or the function’s linearity. I’m worried about how things are called. I tried to express in the diagram below. Do you find something illogical?

años de perro, 犬の年, dog years

The problem is at calling «a dog year» a regular 365 days year and calling two different things «a human year». What we should call a dog year is 1/7 of a year.

Por cierto, ¡ya estoy en Alicante!

By the way, I’m back in Alicante!

Software Business Conference 2009 Fukuoka

On December 5th, the Software Business Conference will be held at Kyushu Sangyo University. It will be a series of lectures for entrepreneurs organized by Takashi Sugiyama and Shunichi Arai from Software Business Lab, a group of people who arrange interesting talks in Fukuoka and at last got the chance to organize something big. As a freelance web developer, of course I’m going! You need to register in order to go, but attendance is free.

The lecturers include entrepreneurs, investors, lawyers, accountants… There’s even one person whose name I knew beforehand: Toshimitsu Dan, lawyer for the Winny case (a popular Japanese p2p program). I hope we have more things like this in Fukuoka. And by the way the Conference is celebrated within the Open Source Conference 2009 Fukuoka, so I’ll attend some of their lectures too.

Reciclando bricks de leche

Like Héctor told us, Japanese households put milk cartons to dry.

It looks like many people couldn’t understand why, so I’m explaining it here. It’s because of the way they are recycled here. You cut them and pile them up, so it helps if they are clean and dry.

At the supermarket you’ll find recycle containers for them, so you can save the official city bin bags, which have a tax included.

There are also containers for these trays supermarket food comes in. Let’s recycle as much as we can at the supermarket!

Jigme Thinley

Last Saturday we went to the Fukuoka Convention Center for a lecture by Bhutan’s Prime Minister, Jigme Thinley.

I didn’t need this Danish translation receptor as Mr Thinley’s English was easy enough to understand. His lecture about Gross National Happiness (and how economy isn’t that important) was very inspiring.
