Un artículo de Ungatonipón me ha recordado un ejemplo bastante curioso de palabras que tienen varios significados. No hablo de homónimos sino de acepciones de una misma palabra. Por ejemplo, nuestras palabras «libre» y «gratis» se traducen las dos como «free» al inglés. Y en japonés además de haber una palabra específica para «gratis» existen dos palabras distintas para «libre»: una que tiene que ver con la libertad de las personas, y otra que tiene que ver con la disponibilidad de las cosas.
1つの言葉でも、いろんな意味を持つものがある。同音異義語のことではなく、全く同じ言葉に2つ以上の異なる意味があるということ。例えば英語の「free」には「自由な」の意味と「空いた」の意味と「無料」の意味の3つ以上がある。スペイン語の場合は「無料」という意味の言葉が別にあるが「自由な」と「空いた」は同じ単語で表現される。
There are words which have many meanings, and one of them is «free». It can mean free as in freedom or free as in free of charge. Yes these are different meanings, in fact we have two different words for «free» in Spanish and it’s quite handy.
No es lo mismo ser libre de hacer lo que uno quiera, que el hecho de que un asiento esté libre, que entrar gratis en un concierto. Tres significados, pero solo una palabra en inglés. Dos en español y tres en japonés.
3つの意味には日本語で3つの言葉が存在しながら、スペイン語では2つだけで英語では1つの単語になる。
Moreover, Japanese has two words for one of our Spanish words for «free». One meaning free as in freedom, and another meaning free as in free seat. Of course they also have another one for free as in free of charge. So they have at least 3 Japanese words for «free».

Japanese is often regarded as vague or ambiguous in meaning, but there are times it outranks even Spanish in accuracy. By the way, does anybody know if this relation among words of different languages has a name in linguistics?
De Neo Geo Pocket casi no tengo juegos. No son tan fáciles de encontrar como los de sus contemporáneas Game Boy Color o incluso WonderSwan (aunque incomprensiblemente hay muchas Neo Geo Pocket en todas las tiendas). Y cuando encuentro juegos, la mayoría de las veces o valen demasiado dinero o son de juegos de azar (pachinko, tragaperras).
ネオジオポケットのソフトはあまり持っていない。日本でもゲームボーイカラーとワンダースワンと比べるとなかなか見かけない（本体は捨てるほどあるのに）。また、ソフトが置いてあったらほとんどの場合は高いか、ギャンブル系（パチンコ、スロット）。
I have very few Neo Geo Pocket games. They are a lot harder to find than Game Boy Color or even WonderSwan games (although any shop will have several Neo Geo Pocket systems for sale). And when I find games, most of them are expensive or they are gambling games (pachinko, slot).
La Color es regalo de alguien que trabajaba en SNK cuando se puso a la venta. Es una pena que la máquina muriese antes de tiempo porque los botones eran buenísimos y, de entre la maquinitas con pantalla a color sin iluminación, era la que mejor se veía. Las pilas también duraban mucho, aunque la WonderSwan era más eficiente en ese sentido.
カラーの方は当時SNKに勤まれていた人に貰った。ネオポケがそんなに早く売れなくなったのは残念だった。ボタンは最高だったし、ライト無しカラー画面付き携帯型ゲーム機の中では画面が一番見やすかった。またワンダースワンに負けるところだが、電池は充分持つ。
The Color one was a present from someone who was working for SNK at launch time. It’s a pity this machine died too soon, because the buttons were the best, and among handheld machines with non-backlit color displays it had the best screen. Batteries also last quite long, although WonderSwan is better at that.
