Sukiyaki

It’s been more than 2 years since I last wrote about sukiyaki on this blog, but it’s one of my favorite Japanese dishes. Beef, tofu, green onion, enoki and shiitake mushrooms… All of them with a rather sweet seasoning.

But what I like best is how everything’s taste matches raw egg’s perfectly. You help yourself sukiyaki into a bowl with raw egg, and enjoy it with rice. Ai’s mother’s sukiyaki is delicious. Have you tried it? With or without raw egg?

Sukiyaki is one of the Japanese nabemono dishes (like shabu shabu). Its main ingredients are vegetables, mushrooms, tofu and beef. Ai’s mother makes it delicious.

Everybody puts a raw egg in their dish and then take some sukiyaki from the pot. Of course, we have this with rice.

After some minutes we needed more beef. Who ate all the beef?

I often hear that «foreigners» won’t have raw egg with sukiyaki because they just can’t have raw egg, but have never met one of these «foreigners». Would you have a raw egg with your sukiyaki? (Hint: it’s yummy!)

Comiendo shabu shabu

Yesterday we had shabu shabu at an MK chain restaurant. It had been long since last time, and it was delicious.

and this time there was some dim sum and other Chinese food.

But at last I cooked and had my food, too. This is me dipping some enoki mushrooms in ponzu, a sauce that contains a lot of vinegar.

And here I am dipping some pork (which plays the main role in shabu shabu) in the spicy sauce. There was a sesame sauce too, but I don’t like it as much.

¿Habéis comido shabu shabu o algo parecido alguna vez?

Have you ever had shabu shabu? We have posted before about the o-nabe (pot) kind of food. Kimchi nabe and radish nabe.

My friend at the office taught me the way of making a radish pot, I don’t know exactly how to say it in English, but they say that it is very good for your throat.
We used all of this large radish as you can see below.

It warmed up our bodies and tasted very good. Also we tried to make a syrup with cut radish and sugar.
(You can try it with honey too.)
Alejandro’s mother told us about this and she said that it is good for your throat too.
My friend also told me the same thing today. It’s common in the world!
