SoftBank 2010 Summer: Twitter

TwitMe for iPhone

This morning I’ve been following Softbank‘s (one of the three large Japanese mobile carriers) presentation for the new 2010 Summer models, and I’m very surprised about the passion CEO Masayoshi Son (@masason) showed about Twitter. All 14 new terminals for the 2010 summer season come with a preinstalled application for Twitter: TweetMe by Flight System Consulting. One chairman of this company is Takashi Sugiyama (@TakaFlight), a man from Fukuoka who has already been on this blog before. TweetMe for iPhone is a cool app because you can talk Japanese to it and it will type it for you.

Son said many interesting things about Twitter. To pick up a few:

  • When he gets up, the first thing he does is check Twitter, even before checking the newspaper.
  • 28% of all iPhone users in Japan are Twitter users.
  • It has no sense to filter people younger than 18 from Twitter.
  • It has no sense too to ban politicians from Twitter. They should use it during elections because it is free.

Ten of the new terminals also come with a widget for twinavi, a Twitter guide made by the company where our friend Héctor García (@kirai), which is the company that’s working on Twitter in Japan. According to Héctor, Twitter Japan is getting ready extra servers to be ready for the new traffic from Softbank.

Other themes were treated too, such as the new terminals themselves (I like the mirumo2), free Wi-Fi and Ustream Asia –but today I have enough with writing about the Twitter part. It was very interesting and below are the links for watching the presentation in English or Japanese.

La presentación en Ustream / Ustreamで見えるプレゼン自体 / The presentation at Ustream:

Me he pillado el iPhone

Yesterday I quit my old DoCoMo Mova P506iC cell phone and got myself an iPhone with Softbank.

Things that were better at P506iC:

  • The camera.

Things better with iPhone:

  • Everything else.

Stuff that I did like when contracting Softbank:

  • They give me a shopping coupon for 5000 yen.
  • They gave me a talking «Father» dog strap which thanks God I can’ attach to the iPhone.

Stuff that I didn’t like when contracting Softbank:

  • At least at the shop I got my iPhone at, you can’t choose the most inexpensive plan the first month.
  • They also forced me to opt in to a pay service I don’t need at all.
  • They didn’t copy my old contacts to the new phone —looks like they were doing it until a few weeks ago.
  • To copy the contacts myself, I need a data cable for the P506iC and a computer with Windows. But I have a miniSD card with a backup and a Mac, this is ridiculous.

Final Fantasy IV The After 月の帰還

The After – Tsuki no Kikan.

The day we went to Bikkuritei, Tak showed me the game he’s playing right now: : Final Fantasy IV The After – Tsuki no Kikan. Also please pay attention to his pepino-like phone.

It’s a game very similar to the original Final Fantasy IV, in both graphics and content.

The game is split in chapters that download separately for an inexpensive price.

I feel it’s a lot more interesting than the DS version of Final Fantasy IV, which turned out to be 3D. I’d like them to put this kind of chapter-based role-playing games on the Nintendo DSi Ware store.

My phone is too old to run this, and I don’t feel like playing games on my phone anyway. But would you buy this game if it was available for your phone, and in a language you can understand?

DoCoMo P905i y Softbank 920p
